Turlough Hill Pumped Storage Power Station in County Wicklow is a major ESB hydroelectric generation facility, with the generating plant located within an underground cavern. Elevated noise levels within the facility required a detailed acoustic investigation to identify the dominant noise transmission paths from the adjacent turbine hall and develop practical measures to improve the working environment.
Allegro Acoustics was commissioned by ESB Generation to undertake on-site noise and sound insulation testing within the power station. The assessment investigated noise transmission between the turbine hall and adjacent spaces.
Following the investigation, Allegro Acoustics developed targeted noise-control recommendations to improve sound insulation and reduce operational noise within the facility. The assessment provided ESB Generation with a clear engineering basis for implementing practical acoustic improvements within this complex operational power-generation facility.
