BT(Equinix) Data Centre

Blanchardstown Corporate Park, Dublin 15

BT Communications Ireland proposed an expansion of the external plant serving its network and telecommunications facility at Blanchardstown Corporate Park, Dublin 15. The development included additional plant areas, electrical infrastructure upgrades and new acoustic screening, requiring a detailed assessment of operational noise from the expanded facility.

Allegro Acoustics was commissioned by BT Communications Ireland Limited to complete the environmental noise impact assessment for the proposed development. A detailed 3D environmental noise model was developed using SoundPLAN to represent the existing and proposed noise-generating plant, surrounding buildings and nearby noise-sensitive receptors.

The acoustic model was used to predict operational noise levels at the nearest noise-sensitive locations and assess the contribution from individual items of plant. The assessment informed the acoustic performance requirements for the proposed screening and allowed mitigation measures to be incorporated into the design where required. Predicted noise levels were assessed against the relevant environmental noise criteria and the existing acoustic environment.

The noise impact assessment provided BT Communications Ireland and the wider project team with a robust basis for the acoustic design of the expanded plant areas, demonstrating that operational noise could be effectively controlled while supporting the proposed development.
