Most competitors stop at Level 1. We operate at Levels 3 to 5. That is our differentiation.

In short

An acoustic consultant measures, models and controls noise and vibration so that a building, a plant or a development meets the limits it is held to and works as it is meant to. Allegro Acoustics is an acoustic consultancy of engineers and architects working across Ireland, the UK and Europe, and the difference is that we take the work through to a solved problem rather than stopping at the report.

What our acoustic consultants do

Most of the work that reaches our acoustic consultants arrives in one of five shapes. A licence or planning condition has to be demonstrated, a planning application needs a noise assessment before it can proceed, employees are exposed to noise that has to be quantified and reduced, a building has to perform acoustically before it can be handed over, or a plant is making noise that somebody has complained about. The five services below map onto those five problems.

Regulatory and licence compliance is usually the starting point. Environmental noise monitoring establishes what a site is emitting at its boundary and at the nearest homes, and reports it against EPA NG4, ISO 1996 and BS 4142 in a form the regulator will accept. For sites operating under an Industrial Emissions Licence, that programme runs annually and the value of it is continuity, because a drift in levels caught early is maintenance rather than an exceedance.

Where a development is still being consented, a noise impact assessment predicts what the scheme will sound like once it is built and tests mitigation in the model before anything is bought. As noise consultants working across data centres, energy generation, water infrastructure and mixed use residential schemes, we write the EIAR noise chapters and handle Requests for Further Information, including on schemes we did not originally assess.

Inside the fence, a workplace noise assessment quantifies what employees are actually exposed to across a working day and identifies which duties under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Regulations have been triggered, and for whom. Hand-arm and whole-body vibration are assessed on the same visit, because the same people are usually exposed to both.

Where noise has to come down rather than simply be recorded, industrial noise control is the engineering half of the practice. We identify which plant is genuinely driving the problem, model the options, then design, supply and install the enclosure, barrier, silencer or damping treatment that fixes it, and verify by measurement that it did.

And where the building itself is the product, building acoustic design covers sound insulation between spaces, reverberation within them, the façade that separates them from the outside, and the noise made by the building services, from concept advice through to completion testing.

Why clients choose an engineering-led acoustic consultancy

There are roughly twenty acoustic consultancies competing for the same work in Ireland, and most acoustic and noise consultants sell the same deliverable, which is a report. A report tells you that you have a problem and how large it is. It does not remove the problem, and the gap between a specification and a commissioned installation is where most disappointing outcomes come from.

Our engineers work inside operating power stations, licensed pharmaceutical plants and live manufacturing sites, where the process cannot simply be switched off while the works happen. That constraint shapes our designs as much as the acoustics do, and it is the reason clients such as ESB, EirGrid, GE Vernova, Merck, Pfizer and Diageo return to us across multiple sites and multiple years.

If you would rather read before you call, our expert guides cover the regulations, the standards and the methods in plain language, and our project pages set out what the work looked like in practice.

Engineering clarity, not just reports

Modelling-Led Approach

We use precise acoustic modelling to identify root cause of the noise issue. This prevents over-engineering and ensures solutions work first time.

Compliance Certainty

Audit-ready, defensible reports aligned with EPA, ISO and planning standards. We don't just measure, we give you certainty.

Practical Engineering

We design buildable, targeted solutions. From concept to implementation, our solutions are designed to work in live operational environments.

Capital Protection

Our precise approach prevents costly redesign, over-specification and repeat interventions, protecting your programme and spend.
