Askeaton Windfarm was a proposed 20 MW wind energy development in County Limerick. A detailed assessment was required to establish the existing noise environment, predict operational wind turbine noise at nearby noise-sensitive locations and assess the potential for shadow flicker.
Allegro Acoustics completed unattended baseline noise monitoring using the methodology set out in ETSU-R-97, supported by concurrent wind-speed and rainfall data. A detailed three-dimensional environmental noise model was developed using SoundPLAN environmental noise modelling software to predict operational wind turbine noise at surrounding receptors. Allegro also completed a shadow-flicker assessment using WindPRO to determine the potential effects of the proposed turbine layout on nearby properties.
The completed noise and shadow-flicker assessments provided the project team with robust technical evidence to support the Environmental Impact Assessment and planning process, while identifying any design or operational measures required to manage potential effects on the surrounding community.
