Allegro Acoustics provided environmental noise consultancy services to Elgin Energy for the proposed Brownstown Solar and Storage Park and Friarstown Solar Farm developments. Both projects required detailed noise impact assessments to evaluate potential construction and operational noise effects at surrounding residential properties and support the respective planning applications.
Brownstown Solar and Storage Park is a proposed 112-hectare development located approximately 5 km northeast of Kilkenny City. Allegro Acoustics completed an attended baseline environmental noise survey to establish the existing acoustic environment at representative noise-sensitive locations and provide a robust basis for assessing noise from the proposed development.
For Friarstown Solar Farm, Allegro Acoustics provided specialist noise input as part of the wider planning and environmental assessment led by TOBIN Consulting Engineers for Elgin Energy. The assessment considered the potential noise effects associated with the proposed solar farm at surrounding noise-sensitive properties.
Environmental noise modelling was undertaken to predict operational noise from relevant solar farm infrastructure at nearby noise-sensitive receptors, while the assessments also considered potential noise during the construction phase. The modelling provided a robust technical basis for assessing environmental noise and identifying appropriate acoustic mitigation measures where required.
The completed noise impact assessments provided Elgin Energy and the wider project teams with robust assessments of construction and operational noise, supporting the planning process for both renewable energy developments and demonstrating how environmental noise could be effectively managed at surrounding residential properties.
