ynagh Power Station is a 400 MW combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) generating station in County Galway and is one of Ireland's key electricity generating assets. Since 2012, Allegro Acoustics has provided ongoing acoustic consultancy services to the station, supporting regulatory compliance, operational decision-making and long-term environmental noise management. Over more than a decade, Allegro Acoustics has become a trusted technical advisor, providing specialist acoustic engineering support across a wide range of operational and regulatory matters.
As part of this long-term appointment, Allegro Acoustics carries out the station's annual Industrial Emissions Licence (IEL) environmental noise monitoring programme in accordance with ISO 1996 and EPA Guidance Note NG4. Beyond routine compliance monitoring, the scope of services has expanded to include environmental noise modelling using SoundPLAN, environmental noise mapping, detailed noise complaint investigations, operational noise assessments and ongoing technical advice relating to plant modifications and site operations. Allegro Acoustics has also provided technical advocacy and representation during engagement with the Environmental Protection Agency, preparing robust technical assessments and supporting the station in responding to regulatory queries and demonstrating compliance with its licence conditions.
Working closely with the station over many years has provided an in-depth understanding of the site's acoustic characteristics, operational constraints and regulatory obligations. This enables Allegro Acoustics to provide practical, engineering-led advice that extends beyond compliance monitoring, helping the station investigate emerging issues, evaluate mitigation options and make informed operational decisions based on robust technical evidence.
