ESBi North South 400kV Interconnector

The North-South 400 kV Interconnector is one of Ireland's most significant electricity infrastructure projects, strengthening the transmission network between Ireland and Northern Ireland to improve security of supply, network resilience and the integration of renewable energy. The proposed route extends for approximately 80 km through Counties Meath, Cavan and Monaghan before connecting with the wider network in Northern Ireland.

Allegro Acoustics was appointed by EirGrid to complete the noise impact assessment supporting the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for this development. The project included an extensive baseline environmental noise survey across the project corridor, together with the assessment of construction and operational noise impacts. Given the cross-border nature of the project, Allegro Acoustics worked closely with Northern Ireland Electricity Networks to deliver a coordinated assessment covering both jurisdictions and ensuring a consistent technical approach.

The completed assessment provided robust technical evidence to support the Environmental Impact Assessment for this nationally significant infrastructure project. By combining extensive field measurements with detailed noise impact assessment, Allegro Acoustics helped inform the planning process and supported the delivery of a major strategic electricity transmission project.
