Limerick Dock Data Centre

Limerick Dock, Ireland

The Limerick Dock Data Centre was a proposed floating data centre development at Limerick Dock. Following a planning objection relating to noise, a detailed technical assessment was required to evaluate the potential operational impact on surrounding receptors and demonstrate how the development could comply with the applicable planning limits.

Allegro Acoustics completed the noise impact assessment for Shannon Foynes Port Company. The work included a detailed baseline environmental noise survey undertaken in accordance with ISO 1996, followed by the development of a three-dimensional environmental noise model of the proposed data centre and the surrounding area.

The model was used to predict operational noise levels at nearby receptors and to identify the dominant noise sources associated with the development. The results informed the targeted mitigation measures required to control noise emissions and achieve the relevant planning criteria.

The completed assessment provided robust technical evidence in response to the noise objections and supported the project through the appeal process. Planning permission was subsequently granted by An Bord Pleanála in September 2019.
