Clondoolusk Substation

Clondoolusk Co. Offaly

Clondoolusk Substation is a proposed 110 kV electrical substation development in County Offaly. The project required a detailed environmental noise assessment to evaluate potential construction and operational noise effects at surrounding residential properties and provide the technical evidence required to support the planning application.

Allegro Acoustics was commissioned by Elgin Energy Services Limited to complete the Noise Impact Assessment for the proposed development. A baseline environmental noise survey was undertaken at representative noise-sensitive locations to establish the existing acoustic environment and provide a robust basis for assessing noise from the substation.

The survey data was used to develop a detailed 3D environmental noise model of the proposed development. The modelling predicted operational noise from the proposed substation infrastructure at nearby noise-sensitive receptors, with particular consideration given to noise from transformers and other electrical plant. The assessment also considered potential noise during the construction phase, with predicted levels assessed against the relevant environmental noise criteria.

The completed Noise Impact Assessment provided Elgin Energy and the wider project team with a robust assessment of construction and operational noise from the proposed 110 kV substation and the technical evidence required to support the development through the planning process.
