Claremorris Wastewater Treatment Plant

Claremorris, County Mayo

Claremorris Wastewater Treatment Plant is an operational wastewater treatment facility located south of Claremorris, County Mayo, with a number of residential noise-sensitive properties in the surrounding area. As part of a proposed redevelopment of the facility, a detailed understanding of the existing acoustic environment was required to inform the developing design and assessment of potential environmental noise impacts.

Allegro Acoustics was commissioned by Veolia Water Ireland to undertake a baseline environmental noise survey at the wastewater treatment plant. Monitoring was completed at representative on-site and off-site locations to characterise existing noise levels from the operational facility and the surrounding environment.

The survey established representative baseline environmental noise levels prior to the proposed redevelopment, providing a robust basis for assessing the potential impact of new and modified process plant, pumps and other noise-generating equipment. The results also provided the project team with the environmental noise data required to inform appropriate acoustic design criteria and noise-control measures as the redevelopment progressed.

The assessment provided Veolia Water Ireland and the wider project team with a reliable acoustic baseline to support the redevelopment and future acoustic design of an operational wastewater treatment facility located close to residential properties.
