Westwood Student Accommodation

Westwood Student Accommodation is a 394-bedroom development located close to the University of Galway, incorporating extensive shared amenity spaces including reception and lounge areas, study rooms, a gaming and movie room and a café/restaurant. The development required a comprehensive acoustic design to provide comfortable residential environments while allowing active communal spaces to operate alongside student bedrooms.

Allegro Acoustics acted as lead acoustic design consultant for the development, with the acoustic strategy addressing airborne and impact sound insulation, internal ambient noise, reverberation control, room acoustics and building services noise. Particular consideration was given to the interfaces between active communal uses and adjoining residential accommodation to provide appropriate levels of sound separation and acoustic comfort.

Detailed acoustic recommendations were developed for walls, floors, doors and other separating constructions, together with requirements for building services noise control and sound-absorbing finishes. The principal amenity spaces were assessed to provide appropriate reverberation conditions for their intended uses, including the lounge, study areas, gaming and movie room and café/restaurant.

Allegro Acoustics coordinated the acoustic design with the wider design and construction teams through to completion, providing a consistent approach to acoustic performance across bedrooms, shared amenity spaces and building services throughout the development.
