UTV TV & Media Centre, Dublin

Macken House, Dublin 1, Ireland

UTV’s television and media facility at Point Village is a 1,200 m² broadcast and office development incorporating a three-sided open-plan news studio, gallery control room, continuity room, post-production suites and office accommodation. The project required a specialist acoustic design to achieve the controlled conditions necessary for television broadcasting while allowing the studio and surrounding workplace to remain visually and functionally connected.

Allegro Acoustics provided acoustic consultancy throughout the design of the facility. The acoustic strategy addressed sound insulation between broadcast and support spaces, studio reverberation, speech clarity, mechanical services noise and acoustic conditions within the open-plan office areas.

Particular consideration was given to the open-plan news studio, where room acoustics and background noise required careful control to provide suitable conditions for live broadcasting and recording. Acoustic materials and sound-absorbing finishes were integrated with the architectural design to control reverberation while maintaining the intended appearance and functionality of the space. Sound insulation and building services noise criteria were also developed for the gallery, continuity room and post-production areas.

The acoustic design provided the project team with a clear framework for delivering the specialist performance required within a modern broadcast facility, combining broadcast-quality acoustic conditions with speech clarity and comfortable working environments throughout the development.
