St. Colman’s Community School in Midleton was used to independently verify the acoustic performance of Procon Modular’s standard modular school construction system. The testing programme was required to demonstrate that the completed construction could achieve the Department of Education acoustic requirements and support the use of the modular system across future school developments.
Allegro Acoustics was commissioned by Procon Modular to undertake comprehensive on-site acoustic testing, providing independent performance verification to Kiwa. Testing was completed across representative teaching spaces to assess the performance of the modular construction once fully assembled and completed on site.
The testing programme included airborne sound insulation between rooms, façade sound insulation, impact sound insulation, internal ambient noise levels and reverberation. This provided a detailed assessment of the performance of the standard wall, floor and façade constructions, together with the acoustic conditions achieved within teaching spaces.
The completed testing programme provided Procon Modular and Kiwa with robust, independent evidence of the acoustic performance of the modular building system, demonstrating its ability to achieve the required Department of Education acoustic criteria and supporting its use across future school projects.
