The proposed Padel Club at Coes Road, Dundalk involved the conversion of an existing warehouse into a new sports and leisure facility incorporating padel courts, reception and café areas, changing facilities, a weight-training area and recovery room. Given the distinctive impulsive noise generated by padel activity, a detailed environmental noise assessment was required to evaluate the potential impact on surrounding noise-sensitive properties and support the planning application.
Allegro Acoustics was commissioned by Elliott Dunn Architects to complete the planning noise assessment. A baseline environmental noise survey was undertaken at representative locations to establish the existing acoustic environment at the site and surrounding noise-sensitive receptors.
The survey data was used to develop a detailed environmental noise model of the proposed padel club. The modelling predicted noise from activity within the proposed courts at nearby noise-sensitive properties and allowed the acoustic implications of converting the existing warehouse to a padel facility to be assessed.
The completed Noise Impact Assessment provided Elliott Dunn Architects and the wider project team with a robust technical assessment of noise from the proposed padel club and the evidence required to support the development through the planning process.
