Mulgeeth Solar Farm is a proposed large-scale solar and energy storage development for Elgin Energy Services Limited. As part of the planning application, a detailed noise impact assessment was required to evaluate the potential effects of both the construction and operational phases of the development on the surrounding rural environment.
Allegro Acoustics was commissioned to complete the environmental noise assessment in support of the planning submission. A baseline environmental noise survey was undertaken to establish the existing acoustic environment at the site and nearby noise-sensitive receptors.
The survey results were then used to develop a detailed 3D environmental noise model using SoundPLAN. The model predicted operational noise from the proposed solar farm and energy storage infrastructure, allowing the potential impact on the surrounding environment to be assessed and compared with the applicable environmental noise criteria. The assessment also considered the potential effects of construction activities associated with the development.
The completed noise impact assessment provided Elgin Energy Services with robust technical evidence to support the planning application, demonstrating the predicted acoustic performance of the proposed solar farm and identifying any mitigation measures required to achieve the relevant environmental noise criteria.
