DePuy Synthes operates a major medical device manufacturing facility in Ringaskiddy, County Cork, incorporating a range of production and operational areas where the effective management of workplace noise is important for controlling employee noise exposure.
Allegro Acoustics was commissioned by DePuy Synthes to complete a detailed occupational noise assessment in accordance with the Control of Noise at Work Regulations. Comprehensive noise measurements were undertaken throughout the facility to identify machinery, processes and locations associated with elevated noise levels and evaluate the workplace noise environment.
Personal noise dosimetry monitoring was also undertaken for representative employees to quantify individual daily noise exposure across their normal working activities. This provided a more detailed assessment of employee exposure where personnel move between different areas, processes and noise environments during a working shift.
The measurement data was used to develop detailed workplace noise maps, providing a clear visual representation of noise levels across the facility and identifying higher-noise areas requiring additional controls. Allegro Acoustics also reviewed hearing protection requirements and provided recommendations to support the selection of appropriate hearing protection for employees working within affected areas.
The combined workplace noise survey and personal dosimetry programme provided DePuy Synthes with a detailed understanding of both area noise levels and individual employee exposure, supporting the ongoing management of occupational noise risk across the facility.
