Clayton Hotel Charlemont is a four-star hotel overlooking Dublin's Grand Canal, providing guest accommodation, conference facilities, restaurants and public spaces within a busy city centre environment. Delivering a high standard of acoustic comfort for guests required careful consideration of external noise, sound insulation, room acoustics and building services noise from the earliest stages of the design.
Allegro Acoustics carried out an environmental noise survey to establish the existing acoustic environment before designing the building façade in accordance with ISO 12354-3 to achieve appropriate internal noise levels within the guest accommodation. The appointment also included sound insulation design, ODEON Room Acoustics software modelling of the restaurant areas, and SoundPLAN environmental noise modelling software to assess noise from the proposed mechanical plant. Allegro Acoustics completed the BREEAM Hea 05 Acoustic Performance and Pol 05 Reduction of Noise Pollution assessments, helping the development achieve the associated credits. Throughout construction, Allegro Acoustics carried out site inspections and post-completion acoustic testing to verify that the required acoustic performance had been achieved.
The result is a hotel that combines excellent acoustic performance with high-quality architectural design. Guests benefit from comfortable bedrooms, well-balanced restaurant spaces and carefully controlled building services noise, while the project successfully achieved its targeted BREEAM acoustic credits through a coordinated acoustic design.
