Goldcrest Student Village, NUIG

Corrib Village, Galway, Ireland

Goldcrest Student Village is a 450-bed student accommodation development adjoining the University of Galway campus at Corrib Village. The project required a coordinated acoustic design addressing both the internal performance of the buildings and the potential environmental noise effects on surrounding residential areas.

Allegro Acoustics provided acoustic consultancy throughout the design of the development. The internal design addressed compliance with Technical Guidance Document E Sound, including sound insulation between bedroom clusters, circulation areas and shared spaces to provide appropriate privacy and acoustic comfort for residents.

The external assessment included extensive three-dimensional environmental noise modelling to examine noise emissions from the development. The site layout, building orientation and built form were reviewed to control the propagation of noise and protect nearby residential receptors.

The completed acoustic design supported the delivery of a high-quality student accommodation scheme that balanced regulatory compliance, resident comfort and environmental protection. Goldcrest Student Village was subsequently nominated for Student Accommodation of the Year at the 2019 Irish Building and Design Awards.
