The American British Academy Performing Arts Centre is a 2,500 m² specialist education and performance facility in Muscat. The centre includes a 300-seat music auditorium, a 160-seat black-box theatre, music studios, drama rooms, a choral recital room and a live-band rehearsal studio.
Allegro Acoustics completed the room-acoustic design for the development. Each space required a tailored acoustic response suited to its intended use, whether performance, teaching, rehearsal or recording. The work included the development of acoustic performance criteria, reverberation-time targets and treatment strategies for the principal spaces. Particular attention was given to speech intelligibility, musical clarity, sound control between adjoining rooms and the management of amplified sound within rehearsal and performance areas.
Allegro Acoustics coordinated the acoustic design with Huckle & Partners LLC and Woodfit Acoustics to ensure that the required treatments were integrated into the architecture and specialist installations. The completed design supported the delivery of a flexible performing arts facility with acoustic conditions suited to a wide range of teaching, rehearsal and performance activities.
