Diageo, St. James Gate

Diageo, St. James Gate

St. James's Gate is Diageo's flagship brewing and distilling facility and one of Ireland's largest manufacturing sites. The site was experiencing environmental noise issues that required a detailed engineering assessment to identify the dominant noise sources and develop practical mitigation measures to achieve compliance with the site's Industrial Emissions Licence noise limits.

Allegro Acoustics carried out a comprehensive site-wide environmental noise assessment, beginning with noise measurements at multiple locations throughout the facility to develop a detailed noise map of the site. The results were processed using Noise at Work Noise Mapping Software to produce a visual representation of the acoustic environment and identify the principal noise sources. Detailed sound power measurements were then completed for each significant plant item and incorporated into a comprehensive SoundPLAN environmental noise model of the entire facility. The model was used to evaluate a range of engineering noise control options and develop targeted mitigation measures capable of reducing environmental noise levels below the site's Industrial Emissions Licence noise limits.

The assessment provided Diageo with a clear understanding of how noise propagated across the site and the contribution of individual plant items to the overall environmental noise impact. By combining detailed measurements with predictive acoustic modelling, Allegro Acoustics developed practical, cost-effective noise control solutions that enabled the site to address its environmental noise challenges while supporting continued operations.
