Tarbert Power Station

Tarbert, County Kerry

Tarbert Power Station

Tarbert Power Station is a major electricity generation facility in County Kerry that has played an important role in Ireland's electricity network for decades. The site has recently undergone significant redevelopment with the construction of a new flexible gas-fired generating plant to support the increasing integration of renewable energy and improve security of electricity supply.

Allegro Acoustics has supported the Tarbert site across both the existing and new generating facilities. For SSE Generation, Allegro Acoustics has provided environmental noise monitoring services for the existing combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant, helping the site understand its environmental acoustic performance and meet its ongoing compliance obligations.

As part of the development of the new flexible gas generation plant, GE Vernova appointed Allegro Acoustics to provide acoustic commissioning support for the generating equipment. Comprehensive commissioning noise measurements were undertaken to verify the acoustic performance of the installed gas turbines and associated plant, with detailed technical reports prepared to demonstrate compliance with the specified acoustic performance requirements.

The result was specialist acoustic consultancy supporting both the operational management of the existing generating station and the successful commissioning of the new power plant. Through ongoing environmental noise monitoring for SSE Generation and acoustic commissioning services for GE Vernova, Allegro Acoustics has supported the Tarbert site across multiple stages of its transition to modern, flexible electricity generation.
