Allegro Acoustics provided acoustic consultancy services to BAM across the PPP Lot 2 and Lot 6 school bundles, supporting the design and delivery of multiple new school developments throughout Ireland. The projects required comprehensive acoustic design to achieve the Department of Education requirements for teaching spaces, specialist rooms, circulation areas and other occupied spaces.
The acoustic design addressed sound insulation between rooms, internal ambient noise levels, reverberation control, room acoustics and mechanical services noise. Detailed performance criteria and practical recommendations were developed for internal walls, floors, doors, ceilings and sound-absorbing finishes, with particular consideration given to achieving appropriate acoustic conditions within classrooms and other teaching spaces.
Allegro Acoustics worked closely with BAM and the wider design teams throughout detailed design and construction, reviewing architectural and M&E proposals, providing technical recommendations and resolving acoustic issues as the projects progressed. The work also included the assessment and control of noise from building services and external plant to ensure appropriate internal and external noise levels.
On completion, acoustic testing and commissioning were undertaken to verify the performance of the completed schools against the specified criteria. The programme provided BAM with consistent acoustic support from design through to final verification, helping deliver school buildings that achieved the Department of Education acoustic requirements and provided suitable learning environments for students and staff.
